LUDA COVID-19 Policy

The first priority of the LUDA commissioners is the health and safety of all people who take part in LUDA events.  Thus, given the ongoing COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic, we have decided to implement the following COVID-19 Policy.  While we feel present conditions are such that we can safely enjoy coming together to play ultimate, given the challenges presented by the omicron variant (namely, its high transmissibility and potential for breakthrough infections) and the indoor, close-quarters nature of Winter League, we feel that additional precautions are necessary for this league.  We feel these precautions are necessary to attempt to present an environment as safe as reasonably possible for our players while also doing our part to not contribute to the widespread negative impacts, especially hospital overcrowding, the spread of the omicron variant has resulted in over the last few months.  These steps are especially necessary due to it not being possible to play ultimate in its original form while maintaining physical distancing of at least six feet between players.

If you have any questions about or feedback on this LUDA COVID-19 Policy, please contact us at at info@lincolnultimate.com.

  • Individuals who are not fully vaccinated* or who do not wish to show their COVID-19 vaccination documentation (or have not yet been able to show it) to the LUDA commissioners will not be allowed to participate in LUDA Winter League 2022.
    • *"Fully vaccinated" means that two weeks have passed since receiving the second dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine or two weeks have passed since receiving the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
    • Given the high transmissibility of and potential for breakthrough infections with the omicron variant, we are not permitting any exceptions to this policy item.
  • Individuals who are fully vaccinated must show their COVID-19 vaccination documentation to the LUDA commissioners to be able to participate.
    • Examples of acceptable forms of COVID-19 vaccination documentation are vaccination cards, photos of vaccination cards, and digital vaccination records.
    • COVID-19 vaccination documentation can either be shown in-person at league or submitted electronically using the form below.
    • The only information that will be recorded regarding COVID-19 vaccination documentation is:
      • Player name
      • The date the vaccination documentation was shown and to which LUDA commissioner it was shown
      • The form of vaccination documentation provided (vaccination card, photo of vaccination card, digital vaccination record, etc.) and whether it was provided in-person or electronically
      • The dates on which all vaccination and booster doses were received
      • The types of vaccination and booster doses received (Moderna, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, etc.)
    • Unless a person's vaccination and/or booster status changes, showing COVID-19 vaccination documentation will only be required once.
    • There will be no "grace period" offered for individuals who forget to bring and/or show their COVID-19 vaccination documentation:  per the policy item above, anyone who hasn't yet shown their vaccination documentation will not be allowed to participate.
  • Individuals who are fully vaccinated and fully boosted** will be allowed to play without wearing a mask.
    • **"Fully boosted" means that 10 days have passed since receiving a booster shot.
  • Individuals who are fully vaccinated but who are not yet eligible to receive a booster shot*** will be allowed to play without wearing a mask.
    • ***As currently defined by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), a person is eligible to receive a booster shot:
      • Five months after receiving their second dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine
      • Two months after receiving their single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine
  • UPDATE -- As of March 23 (week 4), given improving COVID-19 conditions, the following revision is in effect:  Individuals who are fully vaccinated and currently eligible to receive a booster shot, but who have not yet gotten a booster shot, are not required to wear a mask while on the field playing in an in-progress game, but must wear a mask after coming off of the field and before rejoining the central sub line.
  • [SEE UPDATE ABOVE]  Individuals who are fully vaccinated and currently eligible to receive a booster shot, but who have not yet gotten a booster shot, will be required to wear a mask while playing.
    • Accumulating evidence shows that the protection offered by initial vaccination declines over time, and that a booster shot is the most effective way both to minimize an individual's chance of serious illness and, arguably more importantly, to minimize their chance of transmitting the virus to others.
    • Thus, to be able to offer as reasonably safe a playing experience as possible to all of our players, we have decided to require that individuals eligible for a booster shot have received one, if they wish to play without wearing a mask.
    • Resources for finding and scheduling an appointment to receive a booster shot:
      • https://www.vaccines.gov/search/
  • This COVID-19 Policy applies not only to registered players, but also to any substitute players.

  • While the Lancaster County Health Department's indoor mask mandate is in effect, ALL INDIVIDUALS will be REQUIRED to wear a mask while inside the Speedway Village fieldhouse and not on the field playing in an in-progress game.
    • To catch their breath, players may keep their mask down after coming off of the field if they move to the outer ends of the sidelines, away from the middle of the sidelines where subbing in occurs.  Players must put their mask back on before rejoining the sub-in lines.
  • After the LCHD's indoor mask mandate has expired, we STRONGLY RECOMMEND (but do not require) that ALL INDIVIDUALS wear a mask while inside the Speedway Village fieldhouse and not on the field playing in an in-progress game.
    • Given the omicron variant's transmissibility and potential for breakthrough infections, the option for every individual that maximizes their own protection and the protection of their fellow players is to wear a mask while inside the Speedway Village fieldhouse, regardless of whether they are allowed to play unmasked on the field.

  • All non-playing guests (and other individuals not covered above) are:
    • (1) required to wear a mask at all times while inside the Speedway Village fieldhouse, and
    • (2) are not allowed to go onto the playing field or pass through the net surrounding the field.

  • Any player or non-playing guest who might reasonably have COVID-19**** will NOT enter into the Speedway Village fieldhouse.  Anyone who later becomes aware that they might reasonably have had COVID-19 when they were in the Speedway Village fieldhouse will notify the LUDA commissioners.
    • ****"Might reasonably have COVID-19" means that an individual suspects that they have COVID-19, that the result of a COVID-19 test they took was positive, and/or that they are diagnosed with COVID-19 by a health professional.

  • Mask-Wearing:
    • If an individual is required to wear a mask, the mask must be a surgical/medical mask or a mask which offers even higher protection (N95, KN95, KN94, etc.).
      • Disposable surgical/medical masks will be provided in the event an individual is required to wear one and doesn't bring one of their own or if the mask they bring is judged by the LUDA commissioners to be not well-fitting.
    • If an individual is required to wear a mask, the mask must cover both the mouth and nose, must be well-fitting (as judged by the LUDA commissioners), and must be worn at all times, with the following exceptions for individuals on the playing field:
      • When taking a drink, one is permitted to temporarily and briefly lower or remove their mask.
      • When resting while on the sideline or between points while on the field, if one moves at least six feet away from all other persons and maintains that distance, one is permitted to temporarily lower or remove their mask.
    • Please also see the Masking Violations Process below.

  • Masking Violations Process
    • In the event that an individual who is required to wear a mask does not follow the mask-wearing rules defined above, the following sequence of steps will be used to attempt to address the situation:
    1. Any player seeing an individual not following the above mask-wearing rules should informally approach the individual and, in a kind manner, ask them to please follow those rules.
    2. If the individual does not correct their behavior, players should report the situation to their team's captain (or to a LUDA commissioner).
    3. Captains are authorized to approach the individual and formally ask them to follow the mask-wearing rules.  Captains are also authorized to tell the members of their team that, if they see the individual not following the mask-wearing rules while on the field, any player can call an equipment timeout to stop play until the individual puts their mask back on properly.  If the cause of the issue is potentially a not well-fitting mask, the captain should offer the individual a disposable mask (provided free of charge by LUDA).
    4. Captains may approach a LUDA commissioner at any time about an issue, and should talk to a LUDA commissioner about any situation in which an individual has been ask to correct their behavior but still isn't following the mask-wearing rules.
    5. LUDA commissioner(s) will observe and monitor any situation involving an individual repeatedly not following the mask-wearing rules.  LUDA commissioner(s) will, at their discretion, approach the individual, suggest ways to remedy the situation, and, if necessary, issue a warning that continued, repetitive violations of the mask-wearing rules (especially if intentional) will result in formal consequences.
    6. If an individual is issued a warning and the individual's behavior is not corrected in future weeks, the LUDA commissioners, at their sole discretion, reserve the right to issue consequences to the individual, up to and including removal from the current league (with dues refunded pro-rata) and/or bans on participating in future league(s).

  • Note that the LUDA COVID-19 Policy is subject to change based on future updates to Lancaster County Health Department mandates, CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) guidelines (see links below), feedback from our players, and/or as the LUDA commissioners see how things go.
    • CDC Guidance on Vaccinations
    • CDC Guidance on Protecting Yourself and Others
  • In the event of any disputes or discrepancies with provided documentation or information, the LUDA commissioners reserve the right to make all final decisions regarding the situation.

If you have any questions about or feedback on this LUDA COVID-19 Policy, please contact us at at info@lincolnultimate.com.

Are You Under 19 Years Old?

  • You must be at least 19 years old, or 18 if a University of Nebraska student, to participate in any LUDA league or event.
  • If you're at least 18 but not yet 19, contact us at info@lincolnultimate.com for the under 19 waiver form.
  • Have your parent or guardian fill out the under 19 waiver form and then bring it to the first day of league.
  • You will not be allowed to participate until you have properly filled out and submitted this under 19 waiver form.

League Information
  • Format:  5 vs. 5 coed indoor Speedpoint (a variation of ultimate).
    • There are no restrictions on the number of players of either gender on the field at any time (i.e., there is no enforced gender ratio).
    • Player match-ups are NOT required to be same-gender, and instead should be decided solely based on the ability of each player.
    • (The goals of the above rules are to bring to our community more parity between genders and to improve for women the experience of playing in this league:  more fun and fair match-ups, better playing time, etc.  As with Spirit of the Game, achieving these goals will require the cooperation and effort of each and every one of us.)
    • It is the responsibility of all team members to always do their best to encourage appropriate match-ups for each of their teammates on the field, and also to make sure each teammate is given a fair and balanced number of opportunities to play.
    • Every person is encouraged to talk to their teammates, their captain, and/or a LUDA commissioner if they feel someone else is not acting in good faith with regard to these rules and guidelines, or if there is just a way they feel these rules and guidelines can be improved.
  • Location:  indoors at Speedway Village's Fieldhouse (345 Speedway Circle, south off of Van Dorn Street east of Hwy 77 -- see the map on this page).
  • Food/Drink:  Outside beverages and small, snack-type food items may be brought into the fieldhouse.  However, all food and drink (except for water and sports drinks) must be kept off of the turf field.  Alcohol is NOT allowed in the fieldhouse.
  • Spitting on the turf field is NOT allowed.
  • Attire:  Each player shall wear a shirt matching their team color, which will be assigned and communicated before league begins.  Cleats (or, at least, some type of athletic footwear) are recommended.  While cleats are allowed in the fieldhouse, players shall wear different shoes while entering the building to avoid tracking in moisture and debris which will damage the turf field.
  • Games:  Each team will play two games per night:  at 10:10pm and at 11:10pm.
  • League Dues:  $30 per player, except as specified differently below, and dues must be paid by week 3, March 1.
    • New Players:  If this is the first LUDA league you've played in, your dues are free!
    • Students:  If you're currently enrolled in college, university, or high school*, your dues are only $20 ($10 off)!
      • *You must be 19 years of age or older, or 18 and a University of Nebraska student, to participate in any LUDA league or event.
    • Referrers:  If you recruit a new player for a LUDA league, your dues are only $20 ($10 off) and their dues are free!
    • (Please contact us at info@lincolnultimate.com if you're in need of special accommodations, such as if you'd like to play but the cost of league dues is prohibitive for you.  We firmly believe that not being able to pay dues should NOT stop you from being able to play ultimate!)
    • Starting on week 3, if a team plays a game and fields a player that has not paid their league dues, that team will forfeit that game 0-25 on the official schedule.
      • Captains recognizing unpaid players on their team or on another team should bring up the situation with a LUDA commissioner or with the other team's captain.
  • Substitutions:  Teams may bring subs to fill out their rosters, i.e., to replace absent paid team members.
    • Subs must be willing to, at the discretion of the LUDA commissioners, be moved to other teams to ensure balanced play.

Gameplay
  • Play is governed by USA Ultimate's 2022-2023 Official Rules of Ultimate, with all enforced rules variations outlined below.
  • Spirit of the Game is a core guiding principle for all ultimate players in all ultimate games.
  • Game Length:
    • The game total is 25 points (winning by two is NOT required).  A short halftime shall be taken after one team's score first reaches the halftime target of 13 points.
    • A hard time cap is applied after 50 minutes (announced as "last point"), with a 5-minute warning announced ("five minutes") issued at 45 minutes.  (No soft time cap is used.)
    • Ties are not permitted.  When the hard time cap is announced, the current scoring attempt shall be allowed to complete.  If this results in the score being tied, a follow-up scoring attempt ("universe point") will be played to break the tie and determine the winner.
  • Speedpoint-Specific Variations:
    • No pulls after points are scored.  Instead, the opposing team takes the disc where the point was scored (or brings it straight up to the goal line) and resumes play immediately.
    • Substitutions are made on the fly from mid-field, with a high-five occurring before the sub can come on the field.
    • Stall count is only 8 seconds (instead of the usual 10 seconds).  Players shall start counting at 3, ending as normal at 10.
    • Only one upside-down throw (hammer, scoober, etc.) is allowed per team per possession.
      • If a second upside-down throw is made by a team during a possession, the result is a turnover, with the disc placed down at the position where the thrower made the second upside-down throw.
      • (Our goal with this rule is to prevent the overuse of these throws, given the lack of wind indoors.)
  • Timeouts:
    • Each team is allowed up to two team timeouts per game.  Substitutions may be made freely by either team during team timeouts.
    • No team timeouts may be called after the 5-minute warning has been announced.  Injury timeouts and technical (equipment) timeouts may still be called during this time, as needed.
    • If a player attempts to call a team timeout and their team has none remaining or the 5-minute warning has already been announced, play is stopped.  The defender marking that player resumes play with the stall count at three more than the count last uttered before play was stopped.
  • Playoff Brackets:
    • End-of-league playoff bracket seeds are determined using overall league win-loss record.
    • The tiebreaker used will be head-to-head record, followed, if necessary, by head-to-head point differential.
      • In the case of three-or-more-way ties, the sums of head-to-head records and, if necessary, the sums of head-to-head point differentials of all games between any of the tied teams will be used as tiebreakers.
  • Field Dimensions:  approximately 27 yards wide and 66 yards long (46-yard central zone and 10-yard end zones).

Location:  Speedway Village's Fieldhouse
