LUDA COVID-19 Policy

The first priority of the LUDA commissioners is the health and safety of all people who take part in LUDA events.  This means that it's the responsibility of the LUDA commissioners when planning our events to keep the ongoing COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic in mind.  We strive to stay informed as to the current COVID-19 situation in Lincoln, Nebraska, the United States, and the rest of the world, and to maintain awareness of the requirements and guidelines currently put in place by the appropriate governmental organizations.  Based on all of that information, we develop a COVID-19 Policy for each event that we feel best presents an opportunity to experience the joy of playing ultimate in as safe a manner as reasonably possible.

Fortunately, as of the week before Spring League is scheduled to begin, COVID-19 conditions in Lincoln, Nebraska, and the rest of the country have vastly improved when compared to what they were a couple of months ago in the period leading up to the beginning of Winter League.  These improved conditions, coupled with Spring League being held outdoors, have led the LUDA commissioners to adopt loosened COVID-19 precautions for Spring League.  That said, given that, as history has shown, pandemic conditions can change quite rapidly:
  • The precautions in this COVID-19 Policy are subject to change, based on revisions to requirements and guidelines put in place by the Lancaster County Health Department, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other appropriate authorities, with the LUDA commissioners reserving the final say in all matters not mandated by authorities.
  • As we've done in past recent leagues, the LUDA commissioners will still be asking all individuals to show us their COVID-19 vaccination documentation.  Collecting information early will make it as painless as possible to implement any changes to COVID-19 precautions if it becomes necessary to update this COVID-19 Policy in the middle of the league.
    • Examples of acceptable forms of COVID-19 vaccination documentation are vaccination cards, photos of vaccination cards, and digital vaccination records.
    • COVID-19 vaccination documentation can either be shown in-person at league or submitted electronically using the form below.
    • The only information that will be recorded regarding COVID-19 vaccination documentation is:
      • Player name
      • The date the vaccination documentation was shown and to which LUDA commissioner it was shown
      • The form of vaccination documentation provided (vaccination card, photo of vaccination card, digital vaccination record, etc.) and whether it was provided in-person or electronically
      • The dates on which all vaccination and booster doses were received
      • The types of vaccination and booster doses received (Moderna, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, etc.)
    • Unless a person's vaccination and/or booster status changes, showing COVID-19 vaccination documentation will only be required once.
    • In the event of any disputes or discrepancies with provided documentation or information, the LUDA commissioners reserve the right to make all final decisions regarding the situation.

If you have any questions about or feedback on this LUDA COVID-19 Policy, please contact us at at info@lincolnultimate.com.

  • IMPORTANT:  All individuals are expected to act in accordance with any changes made to this COVID-19 Policy if any such changes are made throughout LUDA Spring League 2022.
    • Any changes will be announced when they are made to all league participants.

  • All individuals, regardless of vaccination or booster status, are allowed to participate in LUDA Spring League 2022.
  • Wearing a mask will not be required for any individual while at Fleming Fields for LUDA Spring League 2022.
    • Of course, the LUDA commissioners encourage any individual who feels more comfortable wearing a mask to continue to do so.

  • Any player or non-playing guest who might reasonably have COVID-19* will NOT enter into Fleming Fields without first talking with a LUDA commissioner.
  • Anyone who later becomes aware that they might reasonably have had COVID-19* when they were at Fleming Fields shall notify the LUDA commissioners.
    • *"Might reasonably have COVID-19" means that an individual suspects that they have COVID-19, that the result of a COVID-19 test they took was positive, and/or that they are diagnosed with COVID-19 by a health professional.

  • This COVID-19 Policy applies not only to registered players, but also to any substitute players and to any non-playing guests visiting Fleming Fields during LUDA events.

If you have any questions about or feedback on this LUDA COVID-19 Policy, please contact us at at info@lincolnultimate.com.

In addition, please also feel free to contact us if you would like links to information about current local or nationwide COVID-19 conditions, how to pursue getting vaccination and/or booster shots, or anything else related to the COVID-19 pandemic or the decisionmaking behind this LUDA COVID-19 Policy.

Are You Under 19 Years Old?

  • You must be at least 19 years old, or 18 if a University of Nebraska student, to participate in any LUDA league or event.
  • If you're at least 18 but not yet 19, contact us at info@lincolnultimate.com for the under 19 waiver form.
  • Have your parent or guardian fill out the under 19 waiver form and then bring it to the first day of league.
  • You will not be allowed to participate until you have properly filled out and submitted this under 19 waiver form.

League Information
  • Format:  7 vs. 7 coed outdoor ultimate.
    • There are no restrictions on the number of players of either gender on the field at any time (i.e., there is no enforced gender ratio).
    • Player match-ups are NOT required to be same-gender, and instead should be decided solely based on the ability of each player.
    • (The goals of the above rules are to bring to our community more parity between genders and to improve for women the experience of playing in this league:  more fun and fair match-ups, better playing time, etc.  As with Spirit of the Game, achieving these goals will require the cooperation and effort of each and every one of us.)
    • It is the responsibility of all team members to always do their best to encourage appropriate match-ups for each of their teammates on the field, and also to make sure each teammate is given a fair and balanced number of opportunities to play.
    • Every person is encouraged to talk to their teammates, their captain, and/or a LUDA commissioner if they feel someone else is not acting in good faith with regard to these rules and guidelines, or if there is just a way they feel these rules and guidelines can be improved.
  • Location:  UNL's Fleming Fields (east off of N. 27th St. between Holdrege St. and Cornhusker Hwy. -- see the map on this page).
    • Alcohol and dogs are NOT allowed at Fleming Fields.
  • Attire:  Each player shall wear a shirt matching their team color, which will be assigned and communicated before league begins.  Cleats (or, at least, some type of athletic footwear) are recommended.
  • Games:  Each team will play two games per night:  at 6:30pm and at 8:00pm.  As daylight runs out, field lighting will be turned on.
  • Beginner's Skills Clinic:
    • Are you new to ultimate and/or new to LUDA and want to get a head start on learning the game?  Do you have some experience but want to refresh and improve your skills before league starts?
    • Join the LUDA commissioners from 6:00pm-6:30pm (immediately before the night's first game) the first week of league (March 30).
    • We'll cover the fundamentals of ultimate and everything you need to know to be ready for league!
  • League Dues:  $30 per player, except as specified differently below, and dues must be paid by week 3, April 13.
    • New Players:  If this is the first LUDA league you've played in, your dues are free!
    • Students:  If you're currently enrolled in college, university, or high school*, your dues are only $20 ($10 off)!
      • *You must be 19 years of age or older, or 18 and a University of Nebraska student, to participate in any LUDA league or event.
    • Referrers:  If you recruit a new player for a LUDA league, your dues are only $20 ($10 off) and their dues are free!
    • (Please contact us at info@lincolnultimate.com if you're in need of special accommodations, such as if you'd like to play but the cost of league dues is prohibitive for you.  We firmly believe that not being able to pay dues should NOT stop you from being able to play ultimate!)
    • Starting on week 3, if a team plays a game and fields a player that has not paid their league dues, that team will forfeit that game 0-13 on the official schedule.
      • Captains recognizing unpaid players on their team or on another team should bring up the situation with a LUDA commissioner or with the other team's captain.
  • Substitutions:  Teams may bring subs to fill out their rosters, i.e., to replace absent paid team members.
    • Subs must be willing to, at the discretion of the LUDA commissioners, be moved to other teams to ensure balanced play.

Gameplay
  • Play is governed by USA Ultimate's 2022-2023 Official Rules of Ultimate, with all enforced rules variations outlined below.
  • Spirit of the Game is a core guiding principle for all ultimate players in all ultimate games.
  • Game Length:
    • The game total is 13 points (winning by two is NOT required).  A short halftime shall be taken after one team's score first reaches the halftime target of 7 points.
    • A hard time cap is applied after 80 minutes (announced as "last point"), with a 5-minute warning announced ("five minutes") issued at 75 minutes.  (No soft time cap is used.)
    • Ties are not permitted.  When the hard time cap is announced, the current scoring attempt shall be allowed to complete.  If this results in the score being tied, a follow-up scoring attempt ("universe point") will be played to break the tie and determine the winner.
  • Timeouts:
    • Each team is allowed up to three team timeouts per game:  one team timeout per half, plus one "floater" team timeout which may be used during either half.
    • No team timeouts may be called after the 5-minute warning has been announced.  Injury timeouts and technical (equipment) timeouts may still be called during this time, as needed.
    • If a player attempts to call a team timeout and their team has none remaining or the 5-minute warning has already been announced, play is stopped.  The defender marking that player resumes play with the stall count at three more than the count last uttered before play was stopped.
  • Playoff Brackets:
    • End-of-league playoff bracket seeds are determined using overall league win-loss record.
    • The tiebreaker used will be head-to-head record, followed, if necessary, by head-to-head point differential.
      • In the case of three-or-more-way ties, the sums of head-to-head records and, if necessary, the sums of head-to-head point differentials of all games between any of the tied teams will be used as tiebreakers.
  • Field Dimensions:  40 yards wide and 110 yards long (70-yard central zone and 20-yard end zones).

Location:  UNL's Fleming Fields

View Fleming Fields in a larger map
  • Field entrance (routes indicated in yellow and red) is to the south of the 27th St. overpass.
  • Free parking (indicated in pink) is available in the lot to the south of the fields.
  • Restrooms and water fountains are directly south of the fields and at the center of the baseball complex to the east of the fields.

Pay League Dues Electronically (with PayPal, Venmo, or Credit/Debit Card)
(but make sure you first register above!)

Note:  paying your dues by cash or check means more of your money goes toward supporting local ultimate!
(In exchange for the convenience of paying electronically, PayPal charges a small fee for each transaction.  Cash and check transactions allow us to avoid those fees.)
