LUDA COVID-19 Policy

Very happily, progress continues to be made in Lincoln, the United States, and the rest of the world in combating the COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic.  It's only because of such gains that the LUDA commissioners feel it's possible to safely resume playing organized ultimate!  However, given that the pandemic is not over, and that the health and safety of our players is our first priority, we have decided to implement the following COVID-19 Policy.  The LUDA commissioners believe that this COVID-19 Policy ensures as safe an environment as reasonably possible for all players, including those who are immunocompromised and/or who, for whatever reason, have not been able to pursue vaccination.  These steps are especially necessary due to it not being possible to play ultimate in its original form while maintaining physical distancing of at least six feet between players.

If you have any questions about or feedback on this LUDA COVID-19 Policy, please contact us at at info@lincolnultimate.com.

  • Individuals who are fully vaccinated and who wish to participate without wearing a mask or other face covering must bring their proof-of-vaccination (vaccination card or similar evidence) to show to the LUDA commissioners.
    • No information will be recorded other than player name, the date the proof-of-vaccination was shown, the method by which the proof-of-vaccination was provided (vaccination card, electronic record, etc.), and to which LUDA commissioner it was shown.
    • Showing proof-of-vaccination will only be required once:  that week and future weeks, the individual will have been documented as being fully-vaccinated and will thus be allowed to play without a mask or face covering.
    • There will be no "grace period" offered for individuals who forget to bring and show their proof-of-vaccination:  anyone who hasn't yet shown their proof-of-vaccination will be required to wear a mask or face covering (see below).
  • Individuals who (a) are not fully vaccinated or (b) who do not wish to show (or have not yet been able to show) their proof-of-vaccination to the LUDA commissioners will be required to wear a mask or other face covering while at Fleming Fields.
    • Disposable masks will be provided in the event an individual is required to wear one and doesn't bring one of their own.
    • The LUDA commissioners will consider allowing an individual to, in lieu of providing proof-of-vaccination, provide a very recent negative COVID-19 test result as a way of being allowed to play without a mask or face covering.  Note that a new test would need to be performed before each week of league in which the individual wishes to play without a mask or face covering.  If this is a solution you wish to pursue, please reach out to us in advance (i.e., please let us know ahead of time instead of just showing up at league with a test result) at info@lincolnultimate.com.
  • This COVID-19 Policy applies not only to registered players, but also to subs and to non-playing guests.

  • Note that the LUDA COVID-19 Policy is subject to change based on future updates to CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) guidelines, feedback from players, and/or as the LUDA commissioners see how things go (all of us are still learning how live and operate in this world!).
    • CDC Guidance for Fully Vaccinated Individuals
    • CDC Guidance for Unvaccinated Individuals
  • In the event of any disputes or discrepancies with provided documentation or information, the right to make the final decision(s) on the situation will be reserved by the LUDA commissioners.

If you have any questions about or feedback on this LUDA COVID-19 Policy, please contact us at at info@lincolnultimate.com.

League Information
  • Format:  7 vs. 7 coed ultimate.
    • There are no restrictions on the number of players of either gender on the field at any time (i.e., there is no enforced gender ratio).
    • Player match-ups are NOT required to be same-gender, and instead should be decided solely based on the ability of each player.
    • (The goals of the above rules are to bring to our community more parity between genders and to improve for women the experience of playing in this league:  more fun and fair match-ups, better playing time, etc.  As with Spirit of the Game, achieving these goals will require the cooperation and effort of each and every one of us.)
    • It is the responsibility of all team members to always do their best to encourage appropriate match-ups for each of their teammates on the field, and also to make sure each teammate is given a fair and balanced number of opportunities to play.
    • Every person is encouraged to talk to their teammates, their captain, and/or a LUDA commissioner if they feel someone else is not acting in good faith with regard to these rules and guidelines, or if there is just a way they feel these rules and guidelines can be improved.
  • Location:  UNL's Fleming Fields (east off of N. 27th St. between Holdrege St. and Cornhusker Hwy. -- see the map on this page).
    • Alcohol and dogs are NOT allowed at Fleming Fields.
  • Attire:  Each player shall wear a shirt matching their team color, which will be assigned and communicated before league begins.  Cleats (or, at least, some type of athletic footwear) are recommended.
  • Games:  Each team will play two games per night:  at 6:30pm and at 8:00pm.  As daylight runs out, field lighting will be turned on.
  • Beginner's Skills Clinics:
    • Are you new to ultimate or new to LUDA and want to get a head start on learning the game?  Do you have some experience but want to refresh and improve your skills before league starts?
    • Join the LUDA commissioners from 6:00pm-6:30pm (immediately before the night's first game) on the first two weeks of league (July 7 and July 14).
    • We'll cover the fundamentals of ultimate and everything you need to know to be ready for league!
  • League Dues:  $10 for any player and must be paid by week 3, July 21.
    • (Please contact us at info@lincolnultimate.com if you're in need of special accommodations, such as if you'd like to play but the cost of league dues is an issue for you.  We firmly believe that not being able to pay dues should NOT stop you from being able to play ultimate!)
    • Starting on week 3, if a team plays a game and fields a player that has not paid their league dues, that team will forfeit that game 0-13 on the official schedule.
      • Captains recognizing unpaid players on their team or on another team should bring up the situation with a LUDA commissioner or with the other team's captain.
  • Substitutions:  Teams may bring subs to fill out their rosters, i.e., to replace absent paid team members.
    • Subs not replacing absent team members must be willing to, at the discretion of the LUDA commissioners, be moved to other teams to ensure balanced play.

Gameplay
  • Play is governed by USA Ultimate's 2020-2021 Official Rules of Ultimate, with all enforced rules variations outlined below.
  • Spirit of the Game is a core guiding principle for all ultimate games.
  • Game Length:
    • The game total is 13 points (winning by two is NOT required).  A short halftime shall be taken after one team's score first reaches the halftime target of 7 points.
    • A hard time cap is applied after 80 minutes (announced as "last point"), with a 5-minute warning announced ("five minutes") issued at 75 minutes.  (No soft time cap is used.)
    • Ties are not permitted.  When the hard time cap is announced, the current scoring attempt shall be allowed to complete.  If this results in the score being tied, a follow-up scoring attempt ("universe point") will be played to break the tie and determine the winner.
  • Timeouts:
    • Each team is allowed up to three team timeouts per game:  one team timeout per half, plus one "floater" team timeout which may be used during either half.
    • No team timeouts may be called after the 5-minute warning has been issued.  Injury timeouts and technical (equipment) timeouts may still be called during this time, as needed.
  • Playoff Brackets:
    • End-of-league playoff bracket seeds are determined using overall league win-loss record.
    • The tiebreaker used will be head-to-head record, followed, if necessary, by head-to-head point differential.
      • In the case of three-or-more-way ties, the sums of head-to-head records and, if necessary, the sums of head-to-head point differentials of all games between any of the tied teams will be used as tiebreakers.
  • Field Dimensions:  40 yards wide and 110 yards long (70-yard central zone and 20-yard end zones).

Location:  UNL's Fleming Fields

  • You will not be allowed to participate until you have properly filled out and submitted this under 19 waiver form.
