Start A Team At Your High School

So, you want to get an ultimate team going at your high school? Awesome! Here is what you need to do:

                                            1. Contact Seth, the LUDA Youth Coordinator at seth@lincolnultimate.com and let us know what you're hoping to accomplish. Although no team happens without players, LUDA may be able to help you find other players at your school, find a sponsor, or find a coach. If nothing else, we'll help get the word out about your endeavor to build a team!

                                            2. Get a sponsor. Your team should have a sponsor from within your school. This can be any school official--a teacher, coach, administrator, etc. Every school operates clubs a little differently, so having an advocate for your team within your school is vital for organization, recruiting, and cutting through red tape.

                                            3. Get a coach. Although you may have perfectly capable teammates who can run practices and teach the team how to play, having an experienced adult coach is invaluable. Furthermore, you need a coach to be eligible for many events.

                                            4. Recruit your friends. With a sponsor and a coach, you can start heavily recruiting at your school. Chances are, your friends will be the first people you convince to join your team, but keep advertising and spreading the news of the team via word-of-mouth to build your roster.

                                            5. Elect captains. Every team needs a captain; we recommend that you elect an upperclassman (junior or senior) to establish a mature student presence and also appoint an underclassman (freshman or sophomore) as a co-captain to ensure continuity of leadership when the upperclassmen graduate.

                                            6. Get a second adult "coach". Having a second responsible adult will be helpful for your team. We recommend recruiting a parent (no experience necessary) to get involved. In addition to having an invested party helping out the team, you may just get them hooked on the sport!

                                            7. Start practicing! It's time to get your team together to learn the game, get good, and do all the fun stuff like naming your team and designing some sweet uniforms.

And always, keep us posted about your progress and how your team is doing. We look forward to seeing you on the field in the spring!
